REPORT OF THE GOVERNING BODY ON
THE WORKING OF THE ASSOCIATION IN 2005-06
Friends,
We extend to you all a warm welcome to the 97th Annual General
Meeting of the Ramakrishna Mission. We are happy to place before you
a brief report of the activities of Ramakrishna Mission for the year
2005-06.
The motto behind the activities of the Math and the Mission,
as placed by Swami Vivekananda, is Atmano mokshartham
jagaddhitaya cha – “For one’s own liberation and for the welfare of
the world”. This is the essence of Sanatana Dharma viewed in the light
of the life and teachings of Sri Ramakrishna. To give a practical shape
to this idea Swami Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Math and
Ramakrishna Mission.
Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission have, right from
their inception, accorded priority to service to the poor. For more than
one hundred years, the Math and Mission have been serving the people,
especially the poor and underprivileged masses in various ways. During
the year under review, the twin organizations made great strides in their
service activities, and our regular activities registered a steady and
significant growth.
NEW CENTRES
A list of new centres and sub-centres started during the year
2005-06 is given below:
In India
1. The Dilaram Bungalow at Vadodara, where Swami Vivekananda
stayed as a guest of Sri Manilal Jashbhai, the then Dewan of
Vadodara, was handed over to Ramakrishna Mission by the
Government of Gujarat. A new branch of Ramakrishna Mission,
named Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara,
was started at the Bungalow.
2. A new branch of Ramakrishna Mission, named Ramakrishna
Mission Ashrama, Aurangabad, was started.
3. The newly created Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University
(formerly called Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational
and Research Institute) was made a branch centre of Ramakrishna
Mission.
4. Ramakrishna Math, Kadapa, till recently a sub-centre under
Chennai Math, was made a full-fledged branch centre of
Ramakrishna Math.
5. A branch centre of Ramakrishna Mission, named Ramakrishna
Mission, Kadapa, was also started at Kadapa.
6. The town centre under Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya,
Coimbatore, was made a new branch centre of the Ramakrishna
Math and named Ramakrishna Math, Coimbatore.
Outside India
1. Vedanta Society of Kansas City, USA, was made a sub-centre of
Vedanta Society of St. Louis, USA.
2. Three ashramas at Belo Horizonte, Curitiba and Rio de Janeiro
in Brazil were made sub-centres of Ramakrishna Vedanta
Ashrama, Sao Paulo.
3. Vedanta Centre of St. Petersburg, Florida, USA was made a
branch centre of Ramakrishna Math.
